From Sept. 4 to 13, Peel residents are offered an exemption period on their regularly scheduled garbage collection day. Residents are encouraged to visit peelregion.ca/waste to check their collection calendar.

During the garbage exemption period, residents who receive curbside collection can place unlimited amounts of acceptable excess garbage at the curb, without garbage bag tags.  Check How to Sort Your Waste to see if an item goes in the garbage.

Each excess garbage bag cannot:

  • Weigh more than 20 kg (44 lbs).
  • Be larger than 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high.
  • Be smaller than 30 cm (12 in) wide and 30 cm (12 in) high.

Residents must ensure there is one metre of space between their excess bags, garbage and organics carts.

Residents can also dispose of their mattresses and furniture at the curb on garbage collection day, throughout the year. Visit peelregion.ca/waste/other-collection-services to learn more.

Excess garbage will not be collected if it is placed at the curb on recycling week.
