The hatched area on Flagship Drive was originally installed to address perceived cut through traffic on Flagship Drive.  Local residents recently raised concerns related to queuing at the intersection as a result of motorists being unable to make a right turn onto Tomken Road.  This was confirmed following an on-site meeting.

Flagship Drive and the surrounding neighbourhood is mature with stable traffic patterns. Transportation and Works staff removed the hatched area to provide additional width allowing motorists to turn right despite the queuing of motorists waiting to turn left.  Staff feel that this minor adjustment to the intersection markings will alleviate the queuing and provide local residents with relief at this location. Further, staff do not anticipate an increase in volumes as a result of this adjustment but will be monitoring traffic volumes in the Spring to confirm this.
